All-in programme

We provide affordable group classes from A1 to B1 with groups of 10 to 14 students. We make use of our own learning method with extensive grammar explanation. Our teaching material consists of a textbook, an online learning environment with extra exercises, and a well-structured homework and grammar overview.

Learning Dutch can be difficult, but we provide all the tools to make you understand the language and help you become a confident Dutch speaker. We require only two things. First, you need to speak English properly. Second, you need to commit to making 2-4 hours of homework for every class.

Awesome teachers!

We take great pride in our staff. Every teacher cares about his or her students and gives its all to see them succeed. In our Dutch school, it is important to us that we give our full attention and go the extra mile. This means, we provide free recaps in case you miss multiple classes and our teachers provide two feedback moments to inform you if you will manage to pass the course and to provide some tips.

Lennert has been teaching with us since 2019. He developed all course programs for our A1 and A2 courses. Originally, he has a history in law, but after some time, he missed social impact in his work. He decided to travel through Central America and discovered teaching. Once he returned to the Netherlands, he knew he wanted to continue teaching and started his career in Utrecht. Later, he joined our team. Now, he is the co-ordinator of the online programs of the school in Utrecht while still teaching one group with us.

Karlijn has always been interested in other cultures and especially languages. She travelled through many parts of the world. She graduated in Social Pedagogy. After graduating, she travelled to Birma and started volunteering as an English teacher. Later, after living and working in New Zealand, she returned to the Netherlands and found a volunteering position for teaching Dutch at MST and started an education to become a Dutch teacher. In 2020 she found us!

Zoë has been teaching since 2022. She finished a Bachelor degree in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences in 2017. After, she obtained her Master in Cultural Anthropolgy (Sustainable Citizenship). During this program, she learned about the struggles internationals are facing in the Netherlands and decided to help, thus she founded International Center in 2018. After working mainly on the social media, events and back-office work of our Dutch school, she decided to start teaching Dutch as well!

Jos Creusen studied (among other things) Linguistics and Literature at the KUT (former name of TiU). In previous lives he was (among other things) a teacher, journalist, writer and linguist. He is very passionate about music (being a musician himself) and languages. He developed exams and Dutch course programs for various universities. Recently, he retired but couldn't let go of his passion for the Dutch language. That's when he found us. Since 2023 he has been teaching with us and loving it so far!

Thom studied a Bachelor in Cultural Antropolgy. During his internships, he taught cultural projects on highschools and discovered his passion for teaching. After his Bachelor, he studied the Master program 'Sustainable Citizenship'. During this program, he learned how the interconnected global world impacts migration and how cultural change is a slow change that follows. After graduating in 2018, he decided to join Zoë and work at International Center. Since 2022, he has been teaching at International Center.

Malaika is our newest teacher. Originally, she studied 'Omgangskunde'. After a while, she decided to follow an extra studies to become a Dutch teacher. Currently, she started her own business 'Juf Malaika NT2' with which she provided her teaching to a number of organisations and schools in the region. Amongst other things, she works at 'Schakelcollege Tilburg'. In 2024, she started teaching at International Center. She will bring her positive attitude to make sure you will have a great time in class!

Levels of Dutch (A1, A2, B1)

Our courses provide an extensive programme based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This means our courses educate you according to European guidelines of learning new languages and prepare you for the state exam and teach you what is required for 'inburgering' (read more at the 'NT2 in the Netherlands' tab).

Dutch on level A1

A1 is a beginner level. You will learn the basics of the language and focus mostly on the present tense. To attain level A1 you need to study approximately 80-100 hours. At the end, you will know 1000 common words for certain topics, such as restaurants, markets, (clothing) shops, doctors, and housing. You will also understand the grammar of word order, pronouns, articles, nouns, verbs, adjectives, modal verbs, comparisons, prepositions, negation, and perfectum (past tense).

Dutch on level A2

A2 is our 'Basic User' level. You will learn more tenses and new vocabulary. At the end, you will know 2000 common words for certain topics, such as bicycles, events, gyms, travel, cinema-theater, and the police. You will also understand the grammar of imperfectum, futurum, separable verbs, reflexive verbs and pronouns, and conjunctions.

Dutch on level B1

B1 is an intermediate level, which is taught over two separate courses at our Dutch school. The focus lies on a deeper understanding of the language, speaking/presenting in Dutch, advanced vocabulary and more comprehensive themes. You will learn about work, study, research, travelling, emotions and feelings, and education systems.

About NT2 in the Netherlands

We often receive questions about learning Dutch, obtaining a certificate, inburgering, and how the system in the Netherlands generally works. Important to know is that you need to make a state exam to receive governmental acknowledgement of your level. Read more below about the most frequently asked questions!

Do I receive a certificate after this course?

All our courses provide an International Center certificate if the teacher feels you attained the proper level and you pass the final exam with a score of at least 70%. Do note: you will need to make a seperate state exam to get an official acknowledgement by the government.

How can I get governmental acknowledgement of my level?

The standard procedure in the Netherlands is that you need to pass a state exam to receive governmental acknowledgement of your level. This is valid for almost every Dutch school in the Netherlands, except for official educational institutions (such as Universities).

What is the state exam NT2?

The state exam is a governmental exam to proof you can use the Dutch language to live and work in the Netherlands. It exists of two separate programs. Program I is necessary for 'inburgering' and to be able to work or study on mbo 3/4-level. Program II is necessary to study on hbo/university-level. The exam consists of writing, reading, speaking, and listening and is made on a computer.

Where and when can I make a state exam?

The state exam is split into multiple exams testing different aspects of the language (reading, writing, listening, speaking). Each exam is provided at multiple dates and locations throughout the year. You can check the upcoming exams here. They can be made at the following six cities: Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Rijswijk, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Zwolle.

How much does the state exam cost and where can I register?

The total exam costs €200 (€50 per part). You can register for the state exam at DUO.
You will need a DigiD (free service) to register.

Payment & terms

We are a social enterprise with a non-profit ideology. That means that we offer affordable qualitative courses. All revenue is provided to keep International Center running and the profits are donated to International Center Foundation in order to provide free help and organize events to help internationals feel welcome! As a consequence, we need to adopt the following terms & conditions.

What is your refund policy?

You will receive a 100% refund if you cancel within 14 days of ordering the course (unless it already started or it will start within two weeks) or if International Center cancels the course.
You will receive a 50% refund if you cancel earlier than two weeks prior to the course starting.
You will receive a 25% refund if you cancel between one and two week prior to the course starting.

You cannot receive a refund in all other cases (such as dropping out, not passing the course, etc.). If you chose instalments, you are obligated to fulfil all remaining instalments if the refund policy expired.

Can I receive an invoice for this service?

We will send all course participants an invoice prior to the course starting.

How does ordering a course work?

To register for a course, you need to order it via our booking tool below. In our system, you first pay a deposit to pre-register for the course. During check-out, you can decide to fulfill the remaining fee all at once or in instalments. Based on your choice, we will send you a payment request (iDeal) to complete your registration.

Can I pay in instalments?

We provide the option to pay the full course fee in 4 instalments, which can be selected during check out. The first instalment is fulfilled when you order a course via the website. The other 3 are split into monthly instalments. There is an included service fee of €25 when paying in instalments. Important: in case you drop out of the course, you are legally obligated to fulfil all remaining instalments.

Can my employer pay for the course?

Yes, a lot of participants have their employer pay for their Dutch course. You can either pay for the course yourself or let your employer pay the course directly. In the second case, we often need additional information from your employer in order to direct the invoice at them. Please contact us at info@icnetherlands.eu.
